For the past 35 years the Hayashizaki – Hagemann Duo has established itself as one of the most creative and versatile piano duos in Europe. Since their early studies with Prof. Robert Alexander Bohnke at the University of Music in Freiburg in Breisgau, the Duo has performed many innovative programmes worldwide.

The Duo made their debut in 1984 at the International Music Festival Weeks in Monfalcone, Italy. Their repertoire includes a wide range of musical styles and genres: from four-hands tango adaptations through to the ”Hamadryades" written by the Belgian composer Jacqueline Fontyn. Memorable highlights include the performance of Wagner's "Parsifal" transcribed by Engelbert Humperdinck in Reykjavik and Leipzig. In their extraordinary Shodō performance, the Duo combines music played on the clavichord with sounds specifically related to Japanese calligraphy. Several composers have written for the Piano Duo, most recently the British composer John Palmer and the Argentine composer and pianist Horacio Lavandera.
